today i am grateful

I want my Saturday night back. It all started innnocently enough with a couple of beers and plans to clear my Netflix queue of the movies I've had for a couple of weeks.

So then my sister, who has been M.I.A. for at least a month, calls me. Her news was a "short, sharp shock" that snowballed into a two and a half hour conversation I kept hoping was a dream. I seriously think at some point I dissociated and watched myself talk on the phone without really being there.

Then, too restless to passively watch movies, I was on the phone another couple hours with a girlfriend who really gets me and my quirks of thinking. The better part of a 12-pack later, I retired to bed. Where else could I go?

So today, as I pace the floor and try to regain my equilibrium, I am going to remember some things that I feel good about recently.

1. Harry is getting better and looks glossy and happy since starting insulin.

2. I have been exploring my girly side and finding solace in skincare. (shallow, but oh so true...)

3. I am branching out in my friendships and discovering there are more layers to the onion than I thought, in a good way.

4. I have begun to plan for spring, when I'll be able to get outside and go hiking again, this time with some different activity groups.

5. I'm planning on at least one trip to see old friends this summer. My niece will be coming to stay with me, too.

6. I'm going to get back on the horse and start dating again. Online, maybe. (Anyone want to take some pictures I can put up?)

7. I am slowly, but surely, reconnecting with the friend I worried might be lost to me.

8. I've started writing again, even if just in a small way, in my journal and Haiku! Gesundheit.

9. I have a new couch. (yes, I am scraping to get to 10 right now).

10. Spring is coming. (The increased light actually has lifted my mood.)
